Woo hoo Peeps laid an egg this morning and we think she laid one on Saturday as well but the only evidence we have of that was a piece of shell and a bit of yolk...she could not wait for breakfast I guess. :-)Monday, March 30, 2009

Peeps and the rest of the family had a nice St. Patrick's Day. I was at a tradeshow for most of the day and then got to go home and hang out with the kids...Peeps & Terra. Peeps got to eat all the clover she wanted from the front yard! Then after Nic and Candice got home we went to D-land to celebrate Nic's birthday.

Peeps in Bugville - a story by my favorite neice...
Bugville was a town with bugs. Little bug big bugs. Then Peeps the horrfying, terrifing, monstrous Peeps attacked Bugville. Peeps had a wite body, orange feet with nails, and a quack that can crack open a watermelon. Then Peeps ate bugs. The Peeps owner came home. Then Peeps quack all day. The Bugville made a trap while Peeps was a sleep. Then Peeps got trapped. Then Peeps never came back. written & illustrated by Lauren Jennifer Guijarro age 8.Monday, March 9, 2009
Peepers picked a peck of pickled pickles!

Wow...Peeps has had one busy weekend. Saturday morning Peeps and I packed up the car and headed off to grandma's house. Auntie Shirley was also up at grandma's so it was nice to see her. She had brought up some giant pickles for me and despite the fact that I am not supposed to have them I ate one anyway :) Peeps was sitting in her stroller next to me while I was eating and I thought it might be fun to see if she likes pickles so I gave her a small piece. She is very food driven and will easily take anything from your hand and she took the pickle, rolled it around in her mouth for a couple seconds and then spit it out! It was hilarious! I tried a few times and got the same reaction every time...hmmm maybe Peeps doesn't like pickles :) Speaking of Peeps being a "picky eater" Aunt Shirley and I went to some feed stores in town and I figured I would ask for duck food since we were out in the boonies and many people have livestock out there. We walked into this one feed store and asked the lady if they had any duck food and the lady said she did but she named off some duck food that I know Peeps won't eat and I said to her, "oh my duck won't eat that." The lady gave me the weirdest look and I had to explain to her that I have a princess duck and she will not eat just any duck food!
Sunday morning I woke up and Peeps had laid an egg...WOO HOO. It was small and the shell was very soft but it was an egg nonetheless and I was happy she had passed this one ok. So after "brunch" Peeps and I loaded up the Element and headed back home, this time Peeps was up in the front seat in her carrier. I rolled the window down and let the wind go thru her hair...she loved it. So we are driving down PCH and in the Malibu area listening to Barbra Streisand on the iPod and since I know where Babs lives I decided to hang a right and do a drive-by of her house as I sometimes do. So we arrive at the exclusive cul de sac where she lives and I glance over at the barn (one of the multiple houses on her compound) and there she is...standing out there with her hair pulled back and maybe doing some gardening? Me and Peeps were very excited to see her and I would have stayed longer to try and get a pic but there was this security/driver-looking guy standing nearby so we drove on. I think this is Peeps' very first celebrity sighting!
Sunday was exactly one week since Peeps had her stay in the hospital and since she was almost 100% better (I say 99% because of the small, soft egg) we decided to get some cookies and take them over to the nice people at the emergency pet clinic. Luckily when we got there they had no other patients in the waiting room so the person working the desk went back and got Dr. Weber. Peeps seemed happy to see him, she even game him some kisses. The vet tech who helped work on Peeps was also there and very happy to see her up and moving. It was nice! I highly recommend this place if you ever need emergency animal services, they will treat you and your animals good there. It is the Emergency Pet Clinic of Garden Grove, here is their website - http://www.er4yourpet.com/
Well it was a busy weekend for both of us but since Peeps has been moved back outside to her Ducky Duplex I am sure right about now she is relaxing in the Duckuzzi!!!!!

Well I would say that Peeps is at about 95% now. Took her out front yesterday to forage in the grass and weeds :) It amazes me how basically calm she is. A very loud motorcycle went by, she paid no attention. A fire truck came down the street with full lights and sirens and she had no reaction. Terra would have been whining and trying to hide!Tomorrow, Peeps and I will be heading up to grandma's house...Peeps is very excited to see her great grandma. Then on Sunday when we get home I am planning on moving Peeps back outside to her Ducky Duplex so we can have our dining room floor back!!!
PEACE OUT!

Persistent Peeps....
Peeps is up and walking pretty good now...she still stumbles a bit when trying to walk too fast or stand on one foot but she is so much better! Almost back to normal :) I am still nervous about her next egg but I am keeping a close eye on her. Click here to see the xrays of Peeps and her giant egg.Tuesday, March 3, 2009
Peeps Power!!!!
I am happy to announce that Peeps stood up this morning under her own power, stood there for about 10 seconds, flapped her wings, took a couple steps then fell back down...HUGE improvement over yesterday. It brought a tear to my eye to see my baby standing there :) She continues to be her normal perky self with a good appetite and we are still keeping her in her playpen in the house and continuing the warm baths. Keep sending those good thoughts our way!Monday, March 2, 2009
March is not starting off good...
So yesterday we had a baseball game at 1pm and then went to eat and do some minor shopping then we went home. We pull into the driveway and there is Terra at the gate right on cue, whining because we "abandoned" her AGAIN! Then usually when Peeps hears me set my car alarm she quacks loudly, but there was nothing...but she does not always do it so no worries yet. Then we go inside and get attacked, I mean greeted by the dog and then I went out back to check on Peeps. She was laying on her belly in the middle of her pen with both legs stretched out behind her, still not worried because ducks often do this BUT when she did not and could not get up when I got closer then I began to freak out. I called for Nic and she suggested I take the cage apart to get to her while I told her to go run a warm bath. I immediately suspected she had an egg stuck in her that she could not pass and a warm bath would relax the muscles...I have had to do this before. So we put her in the bath and it did not seem to be helping so Nic jumped into action and called the vet that was not open but they had a number for a nearby emergency pet clinic. So to make a long story short, we spent about 3 hours there and Peeps spent the night. The doctor did manage to get the BASEBALL SIZED EGG out (in pieces) BUT she is still not standing or walking. She can scoot herself where she wants to go and has tried to stand up but can't. We hope that this is temporary and she has an appointment at the vet this afternoon to see what is going on. Right now she is resting inside in her playpen with her Hippy (see picture) and I am hoping that when I get home this afternoon she is trying to jump out of the playpen :-) Everyone please think good thoughts today!!!
