Bad blogger...

Ok so I have not been the best blogger I can be but I am going to try to be better about writing in here. So let me catch you up on a few things. My grandma passed away on December 5th which was the day I was supposed to bring Peepers up to visit her :( My grandma loved this duck but hey what is not to love about Peeps? And I know Peeps loved grandma :) Here is a picture of Peeps at about 7 weeks old on grandma's lap. We all miss you grandma!

With all the rain we had last week Peeps cage got very dirty because I was not out hosing it out every other day...so Tuesday night I went out there and gave it a good scrubbing and washing and took a few videos of Peeps checking out the good job I did and giving me her approval by hopping in her duckuzzi and taking a good bath and splashing around:

Peeps is such a good duck...everyone should have a Peeps :-)

Are you smarter than a 4th grader?

Can she fly? What does she eat? Is it a boy or a girl? How old is she? Where did you get her? What do you do with her eggs? How long have you had her? What do her feet feel like? Does she bite? How big will she get? Does she have a pool? Where does she sleep? Why is the duck in a stroller? These are just some of the questions I was asked by the 4th graders at my niece's school. I took Peeps to visit Lauren's classroom last Friday because they were studying pond ecosystems. The kids were cool and Peeps was a good duck, she did not bite anyone :-) And the number one question asked???? Are you Lauren's grandma??? Oh man...time to dye my hair!

The wayward snail...

So the other day I was going out back to feed Peeps and I notice her staring intently at the back corner of her cage. She was just staring and not moving so I walked over to her to see what was going on and I see a snail motoring (slowly of course) towards Peeps' cage. So I sat back and watched this event unfold. As the snail got to the cage Peeps started pecking at the cage. The snail made it's way to the cage and began the climb up the side. Peeps took a good peck at it and the snail fell off so Peeps had to go back to staring. When the snail got in position again Peeps went for it and successfully got the snail into her cage where it was very quickly devoured! Yum!

Stubborn duck!

So after work today I did my usual Wednesday routine of cleaning Peeps' cage out which involves hosing out the lower level of the Ducky Duplex and cleaning her water bucket and Duckuzzi. So I get everything clean and go to put her Duckuzzi back and she is standing there and will not move. I tried to push her away with it but she did not budge and I did not want to hurt her so I backed off. Then she proceeds to do "flat duck" for me and I say, "fine then, if you won't move then I will put the Duckuzzi on top of you!" AND I DID! :-)

She stayed there long enough for me to take the picture but then hurried out of there when I grabbed the hose! She LOVES the water but for some reason does not like the hose anymore.

It is a conspiracy!!!

Well neither Peepers nor Terra made it to the top 10 of the KOST 103.5 cutest pet contest. Look at the one that did make it and tell me that any of them are cuter than my babies!!!!!!!!!!

Peeps made a new friend today...

Our friend Carol and her granddaughter Sophie came over to meet Peeps today...AND they brought Peeps her favorite treat - tomatoes, fresh from Carol's garden. Peeps was very excited. We brought her in the house so she could play in the dining room and visit with us.
I have talked before about how Peeps loves to check out what is in your pant leg or if you have anything up your sleeve or if you are carrying anything good to eat in your pockets and today was no different. Well ok maybe there was one thing different...Sophie had on a cute little skirt and maybe her first meeting with a duck was a little more personal than she thought it would be :-)
Thanks for coming to visit us Sophie and Carol, come back anytime!!!!!

Ooohh my little girl...

I was just sent this picture of baby Peeps that my friend had on her phone.
Wow...could she be any more precious???? And so small!!! It is hard to believe that this little ball of yellow fluff has grown into the big, beautiful duck she is today. I remember when she was this size all she did was "peep" and now she will tell it like it is. She is very opinionated and if you are not feeding her fast enough at meal time she will let you know. If you come home after work and do not go say hi to her she will QUACK until you do! If her duckuzzi is not filling up fast enough she has words for you...but best of all...if it is right before bedtime and you are giving her some loving, she will love you back and give you that soft little "peep" again to tell you she loves you!

I told you she was a puppy!

Check out this video of Peeps that that I took the other night while putting her to bed. She wags her tail like a puppy :) (please excuse my breathing in the audio, the weather change is wreaking havoc on my sinuses)

SLACKER!!!

Ok I know I have been a total slacker on this blog for a month or so, but I promise to have some new Peeps pics up soon and hopefully she will give me some good stories to tell you too.

Splish splash she was takin' a bath...

What's a duck to do on a hot day other than sit in her duckuzzi and cool off! That is exactly what Peeps did today. I put the hose on top of her cage and let the water fall into her tub and she loved it. I think she is pretty much done with her big-girl molt and her attitude has gone back to good duck status. Not biting :) Her feathers are a gorgeous cream color and she seems to have put on some weight during the molt...she did have quite the appetite!!!!

I am back...

...the sharkin' was cool. Peeps did a lot of feather growing while I was gone on my trip. I hope to post a photo of the new Peeps in a couple days :)

No blog entries for a week or so...

I will be off on a boat swimming with sharks so there will be no posts on here until after the 12th...until then I will leave you with this:
...Peeps and Terra trying to get the same treat...Terra won because Peeps' beak does not fit through the wire of the cage :) Peace out!

The molt...

Well Peeps is now officially an adult duck...awww my little girl is all grown up :( and here is the proof...this picture was taken last night after I cleaned the lower part of her cage:

And here is her cage just 30 minutes later! Look at all those feathers!

She is currently going through her "big girl" molt where she will lose all her big feathers and get bright and shiny new ones. I will sure be glad when this is all over because she is very irritable right now as she loses feathers and gains new ones. The new feathers coming in are full of blood and make her very sensitive to touch so we are not petting her or picking her up which is a very hard concept for me to grasp because I love my Peeps hugs and such. But I just keep thinking of how more beautiful she is going to be when this is all over and will start laying eggs again.

My Sweet Peeps...

Oh my sweet, sweet, innocent Peepers...um yea...she bit Nicole on the lip last night...not once, but twice!

When I put Peeps to bed everynight I kiss her little head and tell her I love her and last night was no different except that Nicole was "helping" me. Now I understand Peeps' body language and sounds very well, like last night, Nic was a little close to Peeps and I could tell she wanted to flap her wings so I asked Nic to back up and then Peeps flapped her wings. Well when we went out to put Peeps to bed she was in her duckuzzi and I did not really want her to get her straw bedding all wet so I put her on top of the pen and towel dried her a bit and then let her do some preening to get more water off. While she was preening I leaned over and she preened my hair a bit and Nic thought that was cool so I told Nic to try it and Peeps was having none of that and in fact I think that got her a little riled up so that when Nic went to kiss her, Peeps bit her on the lip. So what does Nic do? She tries again and Peeps gives her another "peck." I told Nic that they were love bites but she was not buying that :-)

More Photo shoot pics...

I am still amazed at how much of a ham Peeps is...she really did not mind this shoot at all. She was a very good puppy that day. Hmmm...maybe Nic is right...maybe Peeps needs an agent so she can be a big star and start earning her keep at the house. Hell maybe she can support her mom?!?!?! :)

Here are some of the shots from the Cal State Fullerton photo shoot:

(click the pics to enlarge)
There are many more photos from the shoot but these are some of my favorites. We got some very interesting looks from people on campus when we went outside. First of all there is this white duck on campus and second of all it is in a stroller! But Peeps did very well, she let them hold her and pet her and she was pretty patient as long as the treats kept coming. The pictures will be used on our LCDs inside the bookstore. A duck being in the pics really has nothing to do with selling clothing but it gets noticed!

Peeps did great at her big photo shoot!

I took this pic with my cell phone during the shoot. Boy did we get a lot of strange looks and people making comments like "hey there's a duck...IN A STROLLER!!!!" It was a good time and I think Peeps enjoed the attention. When I get the real photos back I will post them.

Peeps is gonna be a BIG star...

...well at my work she will be. Today she will be a "prop" in a photo shoot for pics used on LCDs around the store to promote CSUF clothing and gifts. This should be interesting. I will post photos of the photo shoot later.

So sweet!

I had a great morning today. Walking from my car in to work I saw a momma duck and her 3 babies cross a small street here on campus. Momma duck hopped up the curb and the babies, who were probably less than 5 days old could not make it. I watched them for a couple minutes and decided to take a closer look. When I got closer I told the momma that her babies were not going to make it up that high curb and the momma duck cocked her head and looked at me. So I bent down and helped each little duckling up the curb and they ran over to momma, she gave me a quack and off they went. It was a good feeling helping those little guys, can't wait to see my Peepers today after work :)

Roach coach...

Oh man I wish I could have gotten a picture of what happened Friday night out by Peeps cage! Our friends, Ana and Michelle had come over to play Wii but first I had to go out and put Peeps to bed for the night and everyone had come outside to say "good-night" to Peeps. So I am standing there getting Peeps towels ready and all of a sudden Michelle starts screaming like a little girl and runs into the house. I did not see what had happened and Ana and Nicole are laughing and pointing to the ground...apparently a LARGE bug had crawled near Michelle and then went under some wood I have in the yard. So Ana lifts the wood up and I scoop the bug up to feed it to Peeps (hey, free food! :) well it was not one bug it was 2 and they were...um...mating! So I threw them in, Peeps enjoyed them and we all laughed and went inside to find Michelle sitting on the couch pouting with her arms folded. True story!

Breakfast of champions...

...nope, it is not Wheaties, it is Cheerios! Mmmm, Peeps loves her Cheerios in the morning...well she loves any food in the morning and the evening and anytime in between :-) This was her enjoying her breakfast this morning consisting of Cheerios, green beans, corn, peas and tomatoes which are not in the picture because those are the first things in the bowl to disappear!!!

Anybody remember this little fluff ball?

I was looking through pictures on my computer last night and came across a bunch of Peeps' baby pictures. This picture was taken on the day I found her. I can't believe that this little fluff ball has turned into the big beautiful white duck that she is today!

Hmmm...those are the crunchy things I love!

Last night, before putting Peeps to bed I brought her in the house for some play time. I put her on the diningroom floor (because it is easiest to clean) and then I laid on the floor as well. First thing Peeps does is come over to me and stand on my arm and preen my hair...I wish I could have gotten a picture of it, it was hilarious. She must think she is part parrot now since she hears the wild parrots outside all day. So after her standing on my arm I realize that her nails NEED to be cut and I send Nicole looking for the nail clippers. I thought the clippers were in Peeps' travel bag so Nicole procedes to take everything out of the bag and put it on the floor. The minute she set the treats down Peeps went right for them and as she tried to eat them through the bag they slid across the floor. It was funny. Peeps is quite the character...gotta love her!!!!!!

Peeps At Home In Ojai...

Well Peeps survived her first trip to grandma's new place in Ojai. Grandma decided that after lunch we would "show off" Peeps in the TV room where according to her they only show sports or politics, which I think means CNN. So we roll Peeps into the TV room where there are 3 residents and 2 employees hanging out. The one gentleman sitting in a chair wanted nothing to do with Peeps, which is fine because he was just sitting there in his boxers and open robe! One lady named Dorothy, when she finally realized that there was a duck in the room her face lit up and she began to laugh...it was cute. The other lady, whose name escapes me right now, was the only one who wanted to pet Peeps and gave her a couple treats. The 2 workers were these cute little Asian women who just kept saying, "look...quack, quack, quack!" and then mumbled something about Peking Duck :-( Our cue to leave came when another gentleman was wheeled into the room and my grandma said, "Dr. King, would you like to pet the duck?" and he said, "I don't want to pet the duck, I want to put it in the oven!" Ok we are out of here....BACK AWAY FROM THE DUCK! All in all it was a great visit and I can't wait to bring Peeps back again. This could be good training for her to become a therapy duck!

This Saturday...

So it is our "weekend" to go visit my grandma who is now in an assited living type place and of course we are bringing Peeps. My grandma checked with the place and they said it was ok for Peeps to come and of course my grandma is telling everyone there about "having a duck on Saturday." She called me last night (Thursday) to first of all make sure I was coming tomorrow, which I then told her that we were coming on Saturday, not tomorrow and she says, "well what day is today?" Oh my grandma, gotta love her! Ok so now that we have the day right she then makes sure we are bringing HER duck and I tell her yes and then she procedes to say the following, "oh good, everyone is excited to know that we will have a duck here on Saturday...pause...oh no, I hope they don't think we are eating the duck!" TRUE STORY! :)

Peeps goes to Redondo Beach...

Peeps got to meet a new friend yesterday when Nicole and I took her out to see Nic's Auntie Becky in Redondo Beach. Peeps really seemed to like her new friend and I think the feeling was mutual on Becky's side too. Peeps was very attentive as we hung out at the back of my car and chatted. It appeared that she was actually listening to what we were saying and she was actually very quiet. It is a good thing that she did not know that there was a BIG pool on the other side of that fence, man would she love to swim in there!!!!

Hello Egg...

This egg right here was laid at exactly 6:46 this morning...you know how I know? I got to see Peeps lay it!!!! It was pretty cool. Peeps has been laying eggs since October '08 and this is the first one I ever got to see actually come out of her. What an amazing thing to see to start off my Friday...today is going to be a good day :)

I have the best duck in the world...

She is not very patient, especially when it comes to food and she does not listen to "commands" at all! She tries to bite the dog everytime she gets too close and she can be VERY noisy at times BUT she is still my Peepers, I love her and she is the best duck in the world :-)

Evan meets Peeps...

Our friends Autumn and Megan and their son Evan came down for a visit from Oregon and spent this past weekend with us. It was a wonderful weekend that was capped off with Evan (13 months old) meeting Peeps, his first encounter with a duck and her first encounter with a baby :-)

Cake video...

Ok here is the video of Peeps eating her cake:

Peeps' 1st Birthday!!!!

My little girl turned 1 year old yesterday and to celebrate, I made her this "cake." It is made of her dry duck food soaked in water to form the cake, the "frosting" is made from Cheerios soaked in water and then decorated with peas, corn and tomatoes...HER FAVORITE! She did exactly what I thought she would when we gave it to her...she picked off all the tomatoes first then went for the peas and corn and then rummaged thru the rest of the cake looking for more tomatoes :-)
We took a video of the event and I will post that later.

Take me out to the ball game...

Last night while we were at a Titans baseball game this girl in our section brought in her tiny little rat of a dog and it made me think about Peeps and how she has never been to a game. One of her feathers has been to Pepperdine, Davis and a few home games though! Our friend Dean now keeps one of Peeps' feathers in his hat for good luck and our record with the feather is 9-1 :-)
So any way back to Peeps coming to a game. I know she would not sit on my lap for a whole game but maybe if I brought her in the car and went out and got her for the last couple innings that might be cool. Of course she will want to put her 2 cents in on everything and I am sure she will yell right along with Nic when she tells our 3rd base coach not to give a certain person the steal sign!!!! I guess I could put her in the stroller and no one would be the wiser except for the fact that this "baby" quacks. We have one more mid-week game this season so maybe I will give it a shot then!

4 days until Peeps' 1st birthday!!!!!!!

Someone has a birthday coming!!!

So Peeps is going to be one year old on May 11th. Wow time flies even though Peeps can't! You can send Peeps your birthday wishes at peepers@jenzworld.com
She can't read but I will read the wishes to her :)

All growed up :)

Oh my little girl is all grown up and gonna be 1 year old in a week! Man time flies!
On Friday after work while I let her swim, 2 Mallard drakes flew over our yard. Peeps saw them and quacked real loud and they answered her and all I could think to do was tell her, "no way...nope...no boy ducks for you! One Peeps is enough around here!"

Beauty Salon...

HAPPY MAY EVERYBODY!!!!
When Peeps was a baby she used to love to fall asleep on people's laps...of course she was much smaller then and fit better on a lap! Yesterday I got home and went out back for my Peeps Time and let her swim for a half hour or so. Usually when she is done swimming I kiss her little head and put her back into her ducky duplex to dry off...but this time I decided to do something different. I grabbed her and a towel and put her on my lap to dry off. Now if you have never seen a duck "dry off" then allow me to explain. A duck will not just sit there in the sun and just dry off...NO! They take an active part in drying off to make sure their feathers stay the way they should. Feathers to a duck are VERY important. If you could get a good look at a duck's bill they have little "teeth" that act like a comb and the duck uses these to comb the water out of its feathers. So the duck combs through the feathers and the water collects in the bill and the duck will shake its head and the water flies out...pretty simple process. Now if the duck is doing all this while sitting on your lap then you are in the splash zone and most of the time that Peeps was drying off yesterday I kept my sunglasses on for eye protection :) Another thing that Peeps likes to do while drying off is every so often she will get up on her tip-toes and flap her wings which usually ends up in me getting "bitch-slapped" in the face by a duck wing. But I don't mind...I love my Peeps! Isn't she beautiful?!?!

Back away from the pool!

Many people ask me how the duck and the dog get along...my answer is "they tolerate each other." They would never be left alone together that is for sure! They are together most of the day but Peeps is in her protective ducky duplex and is not allowed out without supervision. If Terra gets too close to Peeps' cage then Peeps will let her know it by quacking at her or trying to nip at her thru the wire and then Terra will bark at her because she thinks it is a game. it is kind of funny to watch them interact this way BUT ONLY THRU THE WIRE! This picture was taken a few days ago when Peeps was trying out her new pool and Terra went in for a sniff. Bill to noggin they were about 4 inches apart but there was no nipping on Peeps' part and no barking on Terra's part so all was well with our world. :-) Eventually I would like to get them to the point where they can be better friends but I will never trust them both together completely, they are still a dog (hunter) and duck (hunted) afterall!!!!!! Even though we all know that Peeps is the alpha female! :-)

Very cool experience...

When I got home yesterday it was still warm so I let Peeps swim in the big pool for a bit while I cleaned out her ducky duplex. The neighbors behind us have this tree/bush thing that hangs over our wall a little and it has these very pretty purple flowers on it. The flowers attract hummingbirds and large carpenter bees and while cleaning her cage my back is to this plant. So I am cleaning and I hear this buzzing behind me...I automatically assume that it is one of the bees...swell! So I turn around to see this hummingbird no more than 6 inches from my head...COOL! I very slowly grab my phone to snap this picture...hopefully you can see the bird in the middle just above the wall. I put my phone away and just watched the bird go about his/her business. Then I decide to test out what Nic says about me being Jen Doolittle...I broke off a piece of branch with flowers on it and I held it out. The hummingbird came right to it and began to feed!!!!!
I HANDFED A HUMMINGBIRD...HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!

Feisty or Frisky?

So this past weekend was a "work on the house" weekend so we were home most of the time...which both Terra and Peeps thoroughly enjoyed! It was a beautiful weekend and I decided to fill Peeps' new pool and let her try it out before I bulid the enclosure for it. I think she really likes it because it is deep enough that she can't touch the bottom so she actually floats, hmmm what a concept! So she is swimming, doing her thing and I go over and pick her up and toss her to the other end of the pool and she swims right back over to me and I do it again and she swims right back to me all the while doing "flat duck." So we do this tossing/swimming routine 5 or 6 times and then I go back to my yard work. If you don't know what flat duck is - she is basically frisky and wants to be mated with, yes, as much as I don't think of her as a duck, she is still a duck :) Later on, Nic is over by the pool and I tell her to try it. So Nic picks Peeps up and tosses her and she does not come back over to Nic like she does to me. So Nic starts playing with her and next thing I know Nic is yelling "OUCH!" and has this nasty mark on her arm...Peeps nipped her good. Apparently Nic was trying to play with Peeps' feet while she was swimming and Peeps was having none of that!!!

Have you hugged your duck today?

Woo hoo, today is Friday and what better way to start off your day than getting a hug from a duck first thing in the morning!!!!!! Oh how I love Peeps' hugs, they make me feel special :) i wish everyone could experience a duck hug...I think I am going to make it a requirement that everyone that comes over to the house has to get a duck hug. Geez, if everyone in the world got to experience a hug from a duck it just could be the start of world peace...of course in Peeps case it is whirled peas! Oh I crack myself up! :) But seriously, next time you are over at our house say, "I am here for my duck hug" and I am sure that Peeps would be happy to hug you.

Peeps' new pool...

So I went back to the feed store and picked up that 70 gallon water trough for Peeps. She has checked it out dry and approves so far. It is very roomy and I think she will LOVE it once it is filled with water and added on to her pen. Now I just have to build the extension off her current pen and then I want to put a drain valve in the new pool to make it easier to drain and eventually her dirty pool water will drain into the vegetable garden that only exists in my mind :-)

Monday, April 20, 2009

Peeps is definitley a people duck...heck she might as well be a "people" herself! This is a leftover picture from Easter in Ojai and Peeps is quite content to look for treats in Lauren's shoe as people are loading the truck behind her.

PSA

** A Public Service Announcement from Peeps
When wild ducks are fed human food (especially bread, popcorn or crackers) their organs become engorged and fatty, which can cause them to suffer from heart disease, liver problems and other health complications. Bread also has very few nutrients, and can get compacted in a bird's crop. Many rehabilitators see "bread-impacted crop" in sick and distressed park ducks. Although ducks seem to love bread, it is not nutritious. White bread in particular is made from refined flour and is not proper for avian nutrition. Many ducks suffer from degenerative liver disease because they eat too much bread. Also, leftover bread and duck droppings pollute the water. The uneaten bread turns into a deadly mold called Aspergillus, which is fatal to ducks, fish and other animals. Rotting bread can also breed other deadly diseases and parasites, particularly a duck virus Enteritis, which with a single outbreak will kill all the ducks of that area. So if you like to go to the park to feed the ducks please take them something nutritious like frozen peas or corn or go buy real duck food at a feed store. Thank you! **

Funny shot...

Pretty duck...

I may be biased but I don't care...Peeps is a good looking duck...and I think she knows it. And after this molt that she is currently going through she will be even more beautiful. I swear that everytime I go out to her ducky duplex after work it looks like a duck exploded...THERE ARE FEATHERS EVERYWHERE!!!!! Maybe I should make a pillow :)
I went to the feed store yesterday to price some horse watering troughs to make Peeps her new pool and I think I may have found the perfect one. It is 70 gallons and rectangle which is just what I was looking for. I am going to mull it over for a day or so and then probably think about going back to get it. I am excited to expand her ducky duplex to include her own "pond" that she can actually swim in!
*IMPORTANT - Peeps and the rest of her flock want everyone to think good thoughts today as our friend Jon Wilhite goes in for his 1st surgery this afternoon to repair the damage done to his neck during that horrible car accident that killed our friend Henry Pearson, CSUF student Courtney Stewart & Angels' pitcher Nick Adenhart. Be strong Jon - ONCE A TITAN, ALWAYS A TITAN!

White birds can jump!

So Peeps may not be able to fly but she can jump...for food that is! We tried for about 10 minutes to get this shot of Peeps in mid-air going after a treat. She's got mad skills...lookout Michael Jordon it is is AIR PEEPS!!!!!

Peeps' 1st Easter...

So this was Peep's 1st Easter and she had a good one. Of course Saturday we made the road trip up to Grandma's house to celebrate Easter and the whole family was there so she got lots of attention...which I think she likes just a little :) Then on Sunday she laid her very first REAL Easter egg at home!

Happy Easter

Peeps and the paparazzi...

Well Peeps was quite the celebrity last night. We went on our first walk with the OC Hiking and Backpacking Club. The walk was from Newport Pier to Balboa Pier and back. We ended up getting to the meeting place late (Jen's fault this time!) and the group had already left but we geared up the kids and headed out. It is funny watching people's reaction when they hear a quack coming out of a stroller that they thought a baby was in :) "OH MY GOSH IT'S A DUCK! A REAL DUCK!" Yep she is real and seemed to really enjoy her first trip down to the beach and of course enjoys the attention...look at how she posed for this picture that one of the walkers took!

Orange County Hiking and Backpacking Club...

Well tonight we all (me, Nic, Peeps & Terra) get to go on our first official club hike! I have been wanting to get out and walk/hike on a regular basis but we just never do so I found this club and joined and tonight is our first walk with them. We are walking (Peeps is rolling) from Newport Pier to Balboa Pier and back. Not a long walk but it is something and I think we will all enjoy it. I will bring the camera and post pictures tomorrow. TTFN!

Maxing and Relaxing...

(photo is from a while ago, when me and Peeps lived in Gardena. Forgot to snap a new pic this weekend)

What a beautiful weekend to be a duck huh?!?!?!? Saturday I cleaned out the ducky duplex and then filled the big pool so Peeps could swim while Tres Leches (me, Nic & Candice) and Terra soaked up some sun "around the pool." It is good to be us :)

Peeps camping outside...

Since the weather has warmed up a bit and we are painting inside the kitchen/dining room area Peeps has spent the last 2 nights outside in her duplex. It doesn't seem to have phased her since I got a nice egg present this morning :-) I think she will stay out there thru the weekend unless the weather takes a turn.

Duck: The Movie

I LOVED this movie and for obvious reasons...it is a must see if you have the chance!!

SYNOPSIS: A man and a duck search for the means to live, and some meaning in life, in Los Angeles 2009. Written and directed by Nic Bettauer, "DUCK" stars Philip Baker Hall as a retired widower in a dystopian Los Angeles where social services have gone the way of social graces, and another Bush occupies the White House. Forced from his home with only a duck named JOE to accompany him, Hall’s character ARTHUR embarks on a quest for purpose and community across the urban desert of Los Angeles. Interacting with a host of strangers – some helpful, some harmful, some heroic – Arthur learns that saving the life of this duck may have led to the salvation of his own. In a duck who believes him to be its mother, an old man discovers dignity and the will to live on...

Sisters...

Terra and Peeps may not be close in species but they are technically sisters in this crazy mixed-up family and they have their differences but one thing they can both agree on is the beauty of a nice log nap in the sun. Of course Peeps prefers her nap to be in the sun AND water at the same time :-)

Woo hoo Peeps laid an egg this morning and we think she laid one on Saturday as well but the only evidence we have of that was a piece of shell and a bit of yolk...she could not wait for breakfast I guess. :-)

Never thought I would have to go there...

Ok so yesterday when i got home from work I noticed that peeps was walking a bit funny...kind of like a baseball player (inside joke) so I scooped her up and put her in a warm bath. After the egg binding scare last time I did not want to take any chances. So when Nic got home we made the decision to...um...probe the duck. Yes that is right, Nic was off to Walgreens to get some generic KY Jelly (on a budget, ya know!) and then I got the job of seeing if I could feel an egg up in there. The whole time I was doing it (which seemed too long) Peeps was giving me the look of "why mom? why are you doing this to me?" Ugh! Well not sure if I felt something or not but we are keeping a close eye on her...SHE BETTER LAY AN EGG SOON SO I CAN BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!

Peeps got a little spoiled yesterday because I was home sick. She knew I was in the house and kept yelling for me and when I would go out there she would pretend like I was not there. She is so smart. Any way I took advantage of the warm weather to thoroughly clean her ducky duplex and her duckuzzi. Of course as soon as I was done she jumped in the water and made a mess. What a good duck :-)

Peeps and the rest of the family had a nice St. Patrick's Day. I was at a tradeshow for most of the day and then got to go home and hang out with the kids...Peeps & Terra. Peeps got to eat all the clover she wanted from the front yard! Then after Nic and Candice got home we went to D-land to celebrate Nic's birthday.

Happy St. Patrick's Day...

Must be something in the water...

There must be something in the water here in Orange. Peeps laid that perfect egg yesterday and then I get this giant today! This egg has to be a double-yolker...too bad I am allergic, that is an omelet waiting to happen :-)

Perfect Peeps egg...

Because Peeps is a princess duck she sleeps inside at night in her warm carrier. She talks and talks until the lights go out then she knows it is time for sleep. So last night was no different than any other night, Peeps slept inside BUT this morning when I went to get her there it was the most perfect Peeps' egg ever!!!! Yes, my baby girl is back to normal :)

Peeps in Bugville - a story by my favorite neice...

Bugville was a town with bugs. Little bug big bugs. Then Peeps the horrfying, terrifing, monstrous Peeps attacked Bugville. Peeps had a wite body, orange feet with nails, and a quack that can crack open a watermelon. Then Peeps ate bugs. The Peeps owner came home. Then Peeps quack all day. The Bugville made a trap while Peeps was a sleep. Then Peeps got trapped. Then Peeps never came back. written & illustrated by Lauren Jennifer Guijarro age 8.

Peepers picked a peck of pickled pickles!

Wow...Peeps has had one busy weekend. Saturday morning Peeps and I packed up the car and headed off to grandma's house. Auntie Shirley was also up at grandma's so it was nice to see her. She had brought up some giant pickles for me and despite the fact that I am not supposed to have them I ate one anyway :) Peeps was sitting in her stroller next to me while I was eating and I thought it might be fun to see if she likes pickles so I gave her a small piece. She is very food driven and will easily take anything from your hand and she took the pickle, rolled it around in her mouth for a couple seconds and then spit it out! It was hilarious! I tried a few times and got the same reaction every time...hmmm maybe Peeps doesn't like pickles :) Speaking of Peeps being a "picky eater" Aunt Shirley and I went to some feed stores in town and I figured I would ask for duck food since we were out in the boonies and many people have livestock out there. We walked into this one feed store and asked the lady if they had any duck food and the lady said she did but she named off some duck food that I know Peeps won't eat and I said to her, "oh my duck won't eat that." The lady gave me the weirdest look and I had to explain to her that I have a princess duck and she will not eat just any duck food!
Sunday morning I woke up and Peeps had laid an egg...WOO HOO. It was small and the shell was very soft but it was an egg nonetheless and I was happy she had passed this one ok. So after "brunch" Peeps and I loaded up the Element and headed back home, this time Peeps was up in the front seat in her carrier. I rolled the window down and let the wind go thru her hair...she loved it. So we are driving down PCH and in the Malibu area listening to Barbra Streisand on the iPod and since I know where Babs lives I decided to hang a right and do a drive-by of her house as I sometimes do. So we arrive at the exclusive cul de sac where she lives and I glance over at the barn (one of the multiple houses on her compound) and there she is...standing out there with her hair pulled back and maybe doing some gardening? Me and Peeps were very excited to see her and I would have stayed longer to try and get a pic but there was this security/driver-looking guy standing nearby so we drove on. I think this is Peeps' very first celebrity sighting!
Sunday was exactly one week since Peeps had her stay in the hospital and since she was almost 100% better (I say 99% because of the small, soft egg) we decided to get some cookies and take them over to the nice people at the emergency pet clinic. Luckily when we got there they had no other patients in the waiting room so the person working the desk went back and got Dr. Weber. Peeps seemed happy to see him, she even game him some kisses. The vet tech who helped work on Peeps was also there and very happy to see her up and moving. It was nice! I highly recommend this place if you ever need emergency animal services, they will treat you and your animals good there. It is the Emergency Pet Clinic of Garden Grove, here is their website - http://www.er4yourpet.com/
Well it was a busy weekend for both of us but since Peeps has been moved back outside to her Ducky Duplex I am sure right about now she is relaxing in the Duckuzzi!!!!!
